Safety Sirens

An experimental concept album and live sound performance

Safety Sirens is the new experimental concept album by RELNACHT, exploring the theme of safety work within nightlife culture. Inspired by interviews with awareness teams, hosts, club managers, floor angels, and bar staff, performers Didi Kreike and Hélène Vrijdag developed a series of “siren songs” as a musical framework. In close collaboration with six different music producers, they followed the dramaturgy of a club night—unraveling the social structures that shape our sense of safety and exposing the complex undercurrents beneath today’s obsession with security.

Club Oblivion

At the heart of Safety Sirens is Angela, a fictional awareness worker in Club Oblivion. As the night unfolds, her altruistic “I care about us” slowly transforms into an authoritarian “I care about me.” Angela’s universe is ambiguous—through the performance, she begins to confront her own limits. Whether Angela can truly be trusted remains uncertain.

RESEARCH

Safety Sirens arises from the tripartite research which took place in 2024 and 2025.

Hélène Vrijdag, performer and songwriter graduated cum laude from her Master Genderstudies at the University of Utrecht with the thesis "HOW SAPPHIC SONGS SLAY", A Queer Musicological Research on Sapphism, Vocality and Death in the Sirens’ Voices in the Odyssey.

Prototype of a living installation featuring a spatial sound design and scenography.

Series interviews with national and international stakeholders in night life.

MULTI-CHANNEL SOUND DESIGN

The result is a multi-channel sound performance in which RELNACHT pushes the boundaries of what a pop concert, a space, or a composition can be. Shifting between soundscapes, confessionals, vocals, and textures, Safety Sirens immerses the audience in a 360-degree live experience, enhanced by a spatial sound design from Ruben Kotkamp. The performance lasts 1 hour and 11 minutes and plays in a continuous loop.

Stay as long as you like.
